Before and after

Applause for myself first - I THINK I AM FREAKING BRAVE TO DO THIS.

While most of you had past experience (maybe even ongoing) on skin problems, I too had my fair share of it. In fact, I had very very huge share of it.

Was plagued by some serious acne and scarring problem during late last year on the T-zone. Not that I didn't have any before, but I'd say what I encountered last year made me felt really helpless because nothing seem to work for me. NOTHING.AT.ALL.

I'm gonna show you how bad it looked. (despite I had even worse ones which I didn't even bother to snap pictures of) Ready?

Boo!

Photobucket

(and this was taken in the process of healing. imagine worst ones)

I started investing in my new skincare products (plus supplements) and isolated my precious makeups. :((( Tried anti-biotics prescribed by the docs but it didn't help at all. I ended up with endless puking and seriously, it never fails to wreak my day.

And this is how it looks these days. Nothing too hoo-hah but it's some realistic improvements. Something which I've seen for myself. Well I'm still have abit of breakouts now and then but at least I know of a product that actually heals and slays off those annoying acne!!

Photobucket

P.S. Don't even think of concealing the area when you are experiencing severe outbreaks like those show in my first pic. It'll only worsen the condition. Not only it clogs pores and deprives the skin from breathing, when removing the makeup it causes unnecessary contacts and agitation to the outbreaks too.

Don't say I never remind you hor...

How much water to drink per day?

Different people requires different amount of fluid intakes. 2 litres everyday for everyone? Not necessary. A person who exercises everyday, in comparative to one who sits in air-conditioned office, naturally the former requires more fluid intake.

But drinking lotsa water, or rather drinking water excessively aids in clearing our body system and hydrates our complexion more right?

For me, my immediate knowledge for drinking excessive water will cause bloatedness. What other disadvantages are there if one drinks too much water? Is there any in the first place?

Googling.....
Googling..... .....
Googling..... .....

Ok, great. Here it is.

"Drinking too much water can eventually cause your brain to swell, stopping it regulating vital functions such as breathing, and causing death."

"If you drink too much water, eventually the kidneys will not be able to work fast enough to remove sufficient amounts from the body, so the blood becomes more dilute with low salt concentrations."

"If you put salty water on onion skin the cells will shrink, if you put too much water on it the cells will swell," he says. This swelling is a problem in the brain."

In other word, YOU DIE.

So, sadly and critically - DRINKING EXCESSIVE WATER IS NOT GOOD. Like it or not, drinking can become a habit. A vicious one. Take me for instance, some mediocre days where I sit in the air-con room and do no exercise, I'll still have the habit of drowning myself with water up to 3 litres or more.

Fyi, I drink a minimum of 2 litres (partly because of the stupid 2 litres per day myth) on average otherwise more.

============================

I had mine calculated here. Note that their weight metric is in pounds so you will need to convert your weight from kgs to lbs. You may want to convert it over here first: http://www.onlineconversion.com/weight_common.htm

Hydration Calculator Results - How Much Water You Need to Drink Today

Here is how much water you need to drink today.

A person who is XXX pounds
and is exercising for 0 minutes ,
(considering on the days I don't jog)
is not pregnant,
is not breastfeeding,
does not live at a high altitude,
does not live in a dry climate,
drinks 0 alcoholic drink(s),
when the weather is not very hot or very cold,
and is not sick with fever or diarrhea should have:

63 ounces of water today, or 1.9 liters.
If you eat a healthy diet, about 20 percent of your water may come from the foods you eat. If you eat a healthy diet you can drink 50.4 ounces of water today, or 1.5 liters.

Remember that water is the best source for your daily fluid needs. Other good beverages include milk, herbal teas, low-sodium broth, 100% fruit and vegetable juices. Soft drinks will also count toward your daily total of fluid, just remember that sugar sweetened soft drinks and fruit juices add extra calories to your daily diet that you don't need.

Hmmm.. looks like I drank slightly too much for what I'm supposed to...

Do you fall on the normal range?

Skincare demo on 18/8/09

Woohoo! I'm bringing the Artistry team (this time, to Cindy's house) to further spread the wellness of the product yet again! Can't wait can't wait!!

Man don't you love "on-site" services? And it's free! *drools*

Somemore got 24/7 tele-consultation, back-end support, fast replies etc. Not as if they are just handling me alone, but many many more databases... So, *touched and teary*

I'm so glad that I did my homework well (c'mon, spending extra sometimes really doesn't mean you are paying for good stuff... a marketer will know why. Email me if you wanna know the reason else it will be kept mum-ed. muahaha) and make a wise decision of investing in Artistry because of the various "warranty" and "maintenance support" I get from them.

Geez. Why am I using all the IT terms ah? Must be the pc show.

Moisturising vs Hydrating

Moisturising, Hydrating, Moisturising, Hydrating.. which is which??

Common mistake most of you and me made is to confuse the two and classified them as one. They sounded somewhat different, but yet it sounds like they are referring to the same thing, right?

Wrong. They are poles apart. But they are equally important.

First, let us start with some very simple question:

  • Is oil and water the same?
  • Is adding and retaining the same?

I sure hope your answer is "No"... if you said "Yes", then I'm quite sad to inform you this, YOU REALLY GOT ALOT TO LEARN.

Starting with sebum. What is sebum produced for?

"Sebum is secreted into hair follicles and functions as a lubricant for both hair and skin. The production of sebum helps to prevent hair and skin from becoming overly dry. When joined by sweat, lipids and environmental dirt, sebum forms an oil coating on the skin, called an acid mantle. Acid mantle protects the skin from water loss and bacterial infections."

********************

Put it simply, looking at a moisturiser on its own: it is to retain the sebum in the skin; internal to external.

It also moists the external of the skin, but very minimal. I'd say, not enough such that we are always in air-conditioned room. Thus explains the we need the hydrating part.

And hydrating agents/contenct/ingredient: it is to hydrate the skin (adding water); external to internal.

******************

It looks rather essential to have the both isn't it? Now, the tricky part is - to balance it.

For those whom experienced "unwanted glow" and acne, it is understood that you have an oily skin which is caused by excessive sebum. Like yours truly. We will need to work balancing the sebum to avoid further acne problem. Occasionally using hydrating products to "add water" so that the external of the complexion will not appear too dry.

There are also cases where people are suffering from constant outbreaks, despite their complexion looked dry and some to the extend of peeling. That shows they still have excessive sebum internally, however it is not produced to moisturise the skin. That spells double trouble. People in this category will need to work it out slowly.

********************

First, using balancing products to balance the sebum internally and externally. Now for that to even out, it takes time. Do not expect instant results.

When the external complexion feels less dry than before, it is time to introduce the hydrating products.

Note that people with excessive sebum be it internally or externally - it is not advisable to use hydrating products frequently. It only induces and creates more acne because you are constantly nourishing the skin.

So, my advise for people under the category of excessive sebum is - using balancing agents first. Afterwhich introduce the hydrating agents.

FYI...

hy·drate (hdrt)
n.
A solid compound containing water molecules combined in a definite ratio as an integral part of a crystal.
v.
1. To rehydrate.
2. To supply water to a person or thing in order to restore or maintain fluid balance.

Melts with my pore cleansing masque... and gel eyeliner

I is lousy with photoshop. I admit. Those minimal amount of creativity learnt donkey years back are long forgotten.

There are thousand and one ps brushes to download but what's the point, I cannot make wonders with them and I'm seriously weeping with the fact that I'm backdated and cannot keep up with the upcoming trends of the youngsters...

OK SERIOUSLY, I'M SUCHA BLATANT LIAR!

Mua.ha.ha.ha.ha.ha.infinitemuahahahas.

The photoshop part is real, thou'. I am lousy. But I pretty much learnt what that you saw, by myself. I should worth a lil' clap. Hmpf.

Remembered what I said earlier on about falling asleep with my Artistry pore cleansing masque? I'm gonna have to repeat myself - I LURVE THIS BABY. IT'S HEAVENLY.

*slaps forehead* Ok, that's not the point. Point I'm going to bring across is: Never leave any masque on for more than 15 minutes (unless it is stated).

Why so? That is because if you leave the masque on for too long, (1) the pores will absorb the impurities accumulate on the face after the optimum time, (2) it causes the skin to loose its moisture because it is being counter-absorbed by the masque itself.

In the case of my pore cleansing masque, because it is deep-cleansing, leaving it on for more than 15 minutes not only will the skin absorbs the "unhealthy" elements, it also causes the skin to loose excessive moisture.

Therefore, be it whichever type of masque you are using, unless it is stated, otherwise one should never apply and leave it on for more than 15 minutes.

For those of you who are using my recommanded Artistry pore cleansing masque, do take note of this alright?

Here comes the review (despite I already made clear that I'm in love with this product and had be raving about it for the umpteenth times already).

Product: Scented. For those of you who have sensitive nose, you may want to try it out first. Stings a lil' for first time application but that is normal because it is deep-cleansing the pores. Subsequently it feels therapeutical it makes you wanting to sleep...

The Artistry team did a demo for Annie (free somemore)last Saturday and boy was I surprised to learnt that she blogged about it!!! Thanks dear!!! Now it makes me wanting to share this product with you all more than ever~.

Seeked her permission to use her written as a form of testimonial because, the masque really worked wonders. Don't believe? Go try it yourself then..

Suitable for: All skin types. But again, it is always good to do a skin patch test for ever product you are using. Better be safe than sorry my dear.

Price: $34.50

Where to get: email me at calmisc@live.com for more information.

=====================================

Ok, another fantastic product I'm gonna share - Beauty maker gel eyeliner by Kevin (女人我最大) from PayEasy.

In shades of black and brown.

Together with the brush.

I must say, the packaging looks extremely, stingy-ly small, but then again, this bottle can last any ordinary human being for at least 1 year I tell you. How much can you use for drawing eyeliner you tell me?!?!?!?

Mad good can??? Having oily eyelids, even the most smudge proofed pencil liner (lao niang can totally forget about liquid ones. Nothing of that type works for me) gets smudgy in the afternoon, but this... this doesn't smudge AT ALL. Wah piang, I finally gotten the puuuuurfect eyeliner for myself after so many experimentations..

Best thing is, IT'S SO EASY TO USE OMG I WISH I CAN USE IT EVERY DAY, EVERY NIGHT, EVERY MINUTE, EVERY SECOND...

For those of you who's having problems with drawing eyeliner: This is so much easier to use compared to liquid and pencil I guarantee you!

The website claims its better than the "B" brand. Can you guess which brand they are referring to? I dunno. You tell me.

Price: Erm.. plus shipping? (they are shipped from Taiwan, in case you dunno) The 2 bottles of eyeliner + the brush cost me about S$53 something...

Incredulous amount of (80 pieces) dainty's collagen face masque purchased for lovelies...

Stupid econs text. #$%^&wtf#%$&!!

Credits goes to Princess Lob's for the eyeliner, masques and textbooks! ^^v

Geez, I managed to complete and post this entry on a Saturday morning! Now if you excuse me, I need to go rest.

Ok bye.

Current new love!

WELL guess what? I'm gonna do my face masque later at home. Best part of this Artistry pore cleansing masque, it is heavenly scented. Makes me feel real relaxed while waiting for time to pass.

So relaxing I sometimes fall asleep unknowingly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is bad! Very bad! In fact, the consequences of you doing face masque, any face masque and falling asleep is DISASTROUS! And I mean d.i.s.a.s.t.e.r.o.u.s. with the capital D!

(Why so? Stay tune. I'll explain more to you guys in the review entry pretty soon ;p)

I wonder if it's the masque that is soothing or was it the scent that actually puts me to sleep...

With the facial steamer JJ helped me bought!

Fantastic 4 regime - the basic regime to adopt

I swear by the name of erm, my neighbour's plant, that I wanted to blog yesterday. But because I was pretty much hovering at Tampines 1, it was quite late when I finally settled down.

And so, here's the regime and product sharing I've promised!

While not all of us put on makeup to work everyday (considering I got more male readers here..), but the car exhaust, construction site's dust, air pollution, even bacteria - it all constitutes to dirt and accumulates on our face.

So like it or not, it is too, essential to use makeup remover even when you do not have any makeups on your face. Note that this is my own set of regime.

========================

Step 1) Remove exccessive impurities from face using Artistry's Gentle Action Makeup remover. Cream base; not greasy.

Photobucket

Optimal time to sleep

Awhile back, a friend told me the best set of rest is from 10pm to 3am. That is where you get quality sleep.

A personal-trusted blog (which I'm addicted to read everyday aside from XiaXue's) further vouched for what my friend said.

Lemme see... I usually tug in at earliest around 11pm (and wakes up at 7am), IF my insomnia doesn't haunt me that is.

Question is, how many of you actually sleep by 10pm everyday?

Unlikely I guess. I think 10pm is probably the time we reach home for some days. Maybe even later.

Like it or not, our biological clock is made best to sleep at 10pm. Meaning, beauty sleep ain't one if you sleep later than that.

For busy adults like us, there's nothing much we could do but to feel exasperated. Well, in that case, let's just make one day, the day for beauty sleep shall we? One day is better than none...

To uphold my self-created philosophy of vanity-heals, I'm gonna try it every Monday. Starting from today onwards.

"...most of you are probably thinking that it doesn't matter what time you sleep as long as you achieve 8 hours of rest right? Well, unfortunately no..." (Read more from Viva Woman)

"...because our body was designed to sync with the cycle of nature - including daylight and darkness...." (Read more from Viva Woman)

Conclusion is, say if we are to sleep from 2am till the next day 2pm (that's a good 12 hours!), it wouldn't beat sleeping from 10pm to 3am (5 hours)!

That's unfair!

Dear Mother nature,
Can you like delay the optimal time till 12am or something lidat? I bet most of us will be grateful!?

Rdgs,
Jinxed

Do's and Don'ts for Healthy-Looking Skin

Do:
Avoid the sun. Nothing is more damaging to your skin than UV exposure. It sets off a chain of adverse and cumulative reactions that lead to wrinkles, discoloration, loss of tone, and dehydration. Whenever you're outdoors, even if you're just running errands or strolling through the park, use a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15.

Drink plenty of water. Proper hydration is essential for flushing out impurities, fostering the development of new cells and enhancing circulation. Try to drink six-to-eight glasses a day.

Sleep well. Nighttime is the right time for skin. That's when cells get busy renewing themselves and repairing the day's damage. A minimum of seven to eight hours of sleep each night is ideal. Any less and your skin will wear the signs of fatigue.

Eat right. You truly are what you eat, so it stands to reason that the better your diet, the better your skin will look. A healthy diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, fish and complex carbohydrates is recommended for most people. Check with your doctor to determine if you should make special dietary adjustments, or take vitamin or mineral supplements.

Stay fit. Regular exercise keeps your heart and your muscles fit. It also keeps your skin in shape by revving up your circulation, which eliminates toxins and promotes a healthy glow. Experts recommend a minimum of 20 minutes of aerobic exercise each day to maintain your current weight and fitness levels; 30 minutes or more to lose weight and improve your conditioning. Walking, running, biking, swimming and dancing are all excellent aerobic activities.

Don't:
Smoke. Smoking destroys the underlying structure of the skin, which quickly leads to premature aging. It creates wrinkles and destroys elasticity. The repetitive physical action of smoking creates lines around the mouth. Over time, smoking causes skin to thicken and discolor.

Drink too much alcohol or caffeine. Moderation is everything when it comes to caffeine and alcohol. For example, a glass of wine is relaxing, but too much wine dehydrates your system, robs you of vital nutrients and may interrupt healthy sleep patterns. Caffeine actually functions as a diuretic and may prevent you from getting enough rest.

Stress out. Even if you try to appear calm, cool and collected, stress has a way of making its presence known. Anxiety leads to a number of surface manifestations, including blemishes, hives, impaired circulation, itching, irritation and under-eye circles. So relax! Adopt sensible time management strategies, take up stress-busting activities like jogging, yoga or meditation, stay connected to friends and family and see your doctor or a counselor if your stress is getting the upper hand.

How frequent do you clean your brushes / applicators / cake?

Do you EVEN wash them in the first place? If you don't, you better do now.

Reason being because the brushes gets dirty and contains bacteria. Make sense, isn't it?

For my case, I normally wash my tools every 2 months or so, even for those I didn't use. That's because despite unused, dust and bacteria accumulates still and hell I do not wish to use them on my face.

On occasions that I used on models, I'll usually wash them after every use. Last thing I need is for people to come and complain to me they get rashes after using my product or service. Which I think most of you are likely to encounter that in studios where you do your makeover or portfoilo.

God knows how many faces has that particular brush been applied for and not washed. So I think it'll be good if you lovelies can bring along your own set of tools should you require studio makeovers or whichsoever.

My eyeshadow applicators.

Photobucket

Here's how I clean them (applys to brushes and powder cakes too) :

Step 1: Squeeze a favourable amount of facial cleanser into a container and mix with water.

Why facial cleanser and not hand wash or body shampoo? Simple. Since the tools are used for the face, then just use a facial cleanser to wash it clean lah!

The contents in hand or body wash might be too harsh and who knows whether or not it will cause irritation to our face. So, choose your trusted facial cleanser for your tools.

Step 2: Soak the applicators and rub it gently till you see the colors are slowly fading.

Gently. You wouldn't wanna tear the sponge of the applicator, dunchu?

Step 3: The water should be filty by now. Pour away the water and repeat Step 1 + 2.

Step 4: Rinse it with tap water.

Step 5: Lay a clean cloth (or tissue paper if you are not eco friendly) and place the washed applicator on top to air dry.

Usually I'll use 2 pieces of tissue paper to press on top of the applicator to ensure excess water are absorbed so as to speed up the drying process.

===================================

Via ivillage:

  • Wash your brushes thoroughly at least every three months. If someone else uses your brushes, wash them before using them again.
  • Use different brushes for light and dark shades of make-up. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to apply a light shade of eye shadow or blush and getting a darker smudge as a result of the last colour you used with the same brush.
  • There are professional brush cleaners on the market, but they can be harsh. To avoid irritation, use a daily cleanser or a mild washing up liquid to wash your brushes. This way, you're less likely to have an allergic reaction.
  • Reshape your brushes after washing and let them dry thoroughly before reusing them. If your bristles frizz and begin to shed, it's time to buy a new brush.
  • ======================================

Halfway unpack makeup box. Too lazy.

Review: Artistry skincare

Hello peeps! Right, I'm kinda watching the memorial of Leslie Chung while typing this and it's really easy for me to starting digressing....

Ok back to the subject. Being in the mid twenties would naturally means I'd need to take better care of my complexion. Which means, more investment in skincare products. While the skincare regime is pretty much fixed, it sets me sourcing for a trustyworthy brand to try on.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Anyways, got to know the brand Artistry through a classmate of mine while complaining my usual.

Well of course I had my reservations. That's when my classmate brought the experts to my place and murder me lemme try the products.

Not too bad actually! I fell in love with the makeup remover (almost immediately) and commanded my classmate to sell me on the spot. But he doesn't keeps stocks, have to take from the warehouse. Tsk!

Surprising enough, some people had been very selfish and not share about the goodness of it!! Because I went round asking and people are saying either they heard it is not bad or that they themselves thinks it's rather good.
Good things must share lah.. so stingy for what.

Lucky me, I got a free Artistry experience where I had the condition of my hair and complexion checked.

Photobucket

Gadgets used for the test. I swear I wanted to steal them there and then. Damn awesome! I can totally imagine using it to microscope everywhere. Maybe my toes or cellulites or something...

After which the consultant will advise which Artistry product you need to use.

Photobucket

Thing is, they do not hard-sell. They leave you to decide whether or not you are keen to purchase. Reckon they must have relevant confidence in their product to be not as pushy in comparison to the rest.

So, I never buy. Lol.

Nevertheless I went to their talk. Launch of new line call Essentials.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Entire function hall filled with people. Impressive.

AND!

I got their basic skin care set - Balancing system (for the oily/combination skin) :p

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Been using for a month odd already and honestly I don't see any changes in the controlling the amount of sebum produced. That's the bad news. Good news is, the product isn't too significantly irritating such that it causes rashes.

Quite soothing actually. Just that it doesn't makes me feel too much of a difference after using it.

Slightly sweet-scented for most products, but not overwhelming. So people with sensitive nose shouldn't worry much.

Price wise? Alot cheaper than brands you can think of (Clarins, Clinique, Ipsa, Kose, whichever). But definitely higher then other shelf brands.

Comfortable price range I should say. Starting from around 30 odd I think.

Was told that's because Artistry do not advertise their products therefore the reason why we consumers are not "charged for the advertising fee".

Sweet.

But the admirable part was the post purchase service. Distributors constantly ask for feedback and comes up with other ways and means to reduce unsatisfactory. For my case, the "fleet" of experts made another trip to my place and had another discussion with me.

Tsk tsk tsk. Sounds like we are talking business lidat. But half of the time I was lying on my back and being served.

Some deep pore cleansing face masque. Rather prickly when applied. Got better after 5 minutes or so.

Photobucket

Should have taken a before and after picture to should you guys the effect. Even I myself was awed by the difference.

Photobucket

Conclusion: I'd probably need to target my digestive system first. To stop the continuous outbreak on my chin area. Else no amount of elixir can help.

Shall do another review in another 1 to 2 months' time~!

Alright then, shall end this entry with a random eye makeup I did awhile back. Have got a makeover for a friend's friend tomorrow and I've gotta wake up at 8am. 8AM!!!! Madness madness.

Photobucket

Turning in already. Night peeps.

Vanity heals

This was drafted last week but didn't have the time to tidy things up. I shall do it now, since I'm in an extremely foul mood to do anything.

===============================

6th Feb 2009:

Much as I hate to admit, I do am stepping into the age where facial care procedures are to be strictly abide.

Yes, STRICTLY. That would mean, investing in good skincare products and no longer the off shelf ones purchased from Watson's or whatsoever, routine application of day, night, eye cream which practically everone hates.

(That applies cosmetics too)

But mark my words, it's better to start early. Everyone knows that.

Am totally upholding the spirit of "vanity heals" where vanity is a must-have now, given the modern era. Everything die die MUST look pretty nowadays. Be it women or men or clothes or even, pastries.

*winks at Ms Phelps, whom now holds a title/designation of Pastry Artist*

Polar FA20, Kose Seikisho

Ok. Said eons back, I'm here to blog about my Polar FA20 and Kose Seikisho mask white.

This gadget I bought was in black albeit the white one looks nicer on printed. Settled for the black one because (1) the white one looked damn cheapo, (2) white gets dirty and yellowish faster. Considering this watch had to stick with me on my sweaty wrist, boring black seems the safest.

Retailing at approx. $200 in major RSH where it's cheaper in the Marina Square outlet because GST is excluded. I got mine at around $160 because there are sales going on. Which reminds me, got voucher somemore! (shit. dunno expire already or not) Forgot how much was it already.

Am not going in-depth with the technical specifications because it's just not my cuppa tea. All I can say is the Polar FA20 looks quite stylish when worn. With the primary function of a watch of course. Date, stopwatch, alarm clock etc.

Then with a secondary function of measuring your calories, running distance, steps taken etc.

Some pics to illustrate.

Random discussion with Kym couple of days back concluded that the watch must be worn tight in order to increase the accuracy of detecting your pulse. She had an issue with the watch always indicating that she had a lazy day despite it's non-factual. Whereas I thought it was quite easy for me to get a "Intensive day. Excellent" feedback.

===============================

Kose Seikisho mask white. I had this tried in comparison with Bio-essence's peel off mask with pine pollen. Can't seem to google any images of the latter so please bear with me.

Imagine biore pore pack. Those that comes in black. Damn shiok when you peel off and start microscoping into the lil' white heads that are yanked out right?

Well Seikisho mask white is like having pore pack all over your face. Ouch.

Apply them on you eyebrow and I swear they will be clean gone when you peel off the mask. Like brazilian wax clean. Brazilian wax.Gone.Cleaned.Waxed.Brazilian.

My first attempt was hellish-ly pain and mild burning post effect. Prolly because my face was rather sensitive with all these yanking and extracting impurities stuffs. I remembered my first encounter with the pore pack got me all teary.

By the second time I had Seikisho mask applied, I was addicted. With an affordable price of $35, this peel off mask is a must grab I think.

However, the mask comes with quite abit of fragrance. People with sensitive nose might find it overpowering. So watch out.

Remember, DO NOT APPLY THEM NEAR YOUR BROWS OR YOUR HAIRLINE. Don't say I never warn you all hor!
