How much water to drink per day?

Different people requires different amount of fluid intakes. 2 litres everyday for everyone? Not necessary. A person who exercises everyday, in comparative to one who sits in air-conditioned office, naturally the former requires more fluid intake.

But drinking lotsa water, or rather drinking water excessively aids in clearing our body system and hydrates our complexion more right?

For me, my immediate knowledge for drinking excessive water will cause bloatedness. What other disadvantages are there if one drinks too much water? Is there any in the first place?

Ok, great. Here it is.

"Drinking too much water can eventually cause your brain to swell, stopping it regulating vital functions such as breathing, and causing death."

"If you drink too much water, eventually the kidneys will not be able to work fast enough to remove sufficient amounts from the body, so the blood becomes more dilute with low salt concentrations."

"If you put salty water on onion skin the cells will shrink, if you put too much water on it the cells will swell," he says. This swelling is a problem in the brain."

In other word, YOU DIE.

So, sadly and critically - DRINKING EXCESSIVE WATER IS NOT GOOD. Like it or not, drinking can become a habit. A vicious one. Take me for instance, some mediocre days where I sit in the air-con room and do no exercise, I'll still have the habit of drowning myself with water up to 3 litres or more.

Fyi, I drink a minimum of 2 litres (partly because of the stupid 2 litres per day myth) on average otherwise more.

I had mine calculated here. Note that their weight metric is in pounds so you will need to convert your weight from kgs to lbs. You may want to convert it over here first: http://www.onlineconversion.com/weight_common.htm

Hydration Calculator Results - How Much Water You Need to Drink Today

Here is how much water you need to drink today.

A person who is XXX pounds
and is exercising for 0 minutes ,
(considering on the days I don't jog)
is not pregnant,
is not breastfeeding,
does not live at a high altitude,
does not live in a dry climate,
drinks 0 alcoholic drink(s),
when the weather is not very hot or very cold,
and is not sick with fever or diarrhea should have:

63 ounces of water today, or 1.9 liters.
If you eat a healthy diet, about 20 percent of your water may come from the foods you eat. If you eat a healthy diet you can drink 50.4 ounces of water today, or 1.5 liters.

Remember that water is the best source for your daily fluid needs. Other good beverages include milk, herbal teas, low-sodium broth, 100% fruit and vegetable juices. Soft drinks will also count toward your daily total of fluid, just remember that sugar sweetened soft drinks and fruit juices add extra calories to your daily diet that you don't need.
